I worked in retail for years.
Now, I am a hired-gun for entrepreneurs helping them build a bridge to the digital age.
I like that, don’t you?
Back to my retail days.
Retail had its good things. For one, it usually wasn’t a stuffy, corporate type environment. There was a lot of laughter and banter between employees and with long-time customers.
I made friends.
I am still friends with my many of my former co-workers on Facebook. I have since moved to a different city and state.
I loved working in the bookstore.
Early in my days, we received promos. One of my general managers used the promos as rewards for certain benchmarks.
Let’s just say I got a lot of CDs 🙂
We often got to meet celebrities, local and otherwise. I met a Hall of Fame NFL football player, and we served a Hall of Fame MLB pitcher.
We knew when the books, movies and CD’s came out. That was back before iTunes and Netflix.
There was bad as well.
For one, it didn’t make a lot of money. It was also physical, and, the older someone got, the harder that become.
One of the worst things about retail, especially at a bookstore, was that the holidays (November – December) was blacked out for time off and vacation.
Just don’t plan on it.
It ain’t gonna happen.
So, for nine years of working at that store in Fort Worth, TX, coming home for Christmas was impossible. My family lived in Conway, AR, where I live now.
If I could make the trip on Christmas day, then yeah, it would happen.
I wasn’t able to do that when one way was 6-8 hours depending on traffic, etc.
You know all of those Home for the Holidays and Home for Christmas promotions? Well, it didn’t apply to the retail worker, if your family lived that far away.
I had always told friends, “I don’t have to go home for Christmas every year, but once every four or five years would be nice.”
With a divorce and moving back to Arkansas, things changed.
Even though our Christmases are a little chaotic, most of the time, I get to see my whole family during that period. And, if I miss a year, no problem, I can catch them next year, or some cases, next week.
So, this year, I am doing a “Home & Holidays” promotion here, at grafixCat media.
I have some folks who have been with me for the better part of this year on our email list.
I want to give something away. 🙂
You smell what I’m cooking?

There are a couple of things you have to do to win.
First, you have to be on our email list. Those on the list are the ones who have a chance to win the prizes.
If you aren’t, you do that right now!
Second, I am going to ask you to promote with either Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin our email list.

Oh, and after the first of the year, I will have another gift for the list.
So, what am I giving away?
Glad you asked.
Earlier this year, Shama Hyder was the focus of our Entrepreneur Stories. Did you catch that one? Read it here.
In addition to the Q&A’s, I did a quick overview of her new book Momentum. Well, the Marketing Zen Group and my friend Matthew Cowling provided two autographed copies of her book!
We will hold a drawing for the first book by the end of this week, and the two winners will be announced December 2nd. I will send an email announcement.
You have to be a member of the email list to have a chance.
Once these two have been selected, then I will set up the ebook contest via Amazon. The details will be sent in an email next week.
Check your email!
I am giving away three ebooks through Amazon.com. I wanted these ebooks to be books that would give you added value, and I think they will. The books include:
The Guest Blogging Survival Guide by Kristi Hines
Blog to Win Business: How to Enchant Readers and Woo Customers by Henneke Duistermaat
A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life by Donald Miller.
These books will be set up as a giveaway on Amazon. I will send an email early next week giving you information on how you can win one of these ebooks.
Finally, I have teamed up with Atlas Coffee Club to provide a three-month subscription. It will be delivered right to your door!
I am working on a way to award the coffee subscription. I will announce the winner on December 16th.
This is all because I am thankful for the year I’ve had and I wanted to do something special for those on my email list. You guys are my tribe, right?
I am going to show the list more love in February of 2017. Stay tuned for that.
